Winter Weather Advisory
Get out of the cold and get out of wet clothing as soon as possible and remove all constrictive jewelry and clothing. Then immerse the affected area in warm, but not hot, water. If water is not available, warm the tissue with body heat. For example, warm your hands by tucking them into your armpits and warm your nose, ears, or face by covering them with dry hands.
Hypothermia: When the balance between the body's heat production and heat loss tips toward heat loss for a prolonged period, hypothermia can occur. Accidental hypothermia usually happens after cold temperature exposure without enough warm, dry clothing for protection. Mountain climbers on Mount Everest avoid hypothermia by wearing specialized, high-tech gear designed for that windy, icy environment.
However, much milder environments can also lead to hypothermia, depending on a person's age, body mass, body fat, overall health, and length of time exposed to cold temperatures. A frail, older adult in a 60-degree house after a power outage can develop mild hypothermia overnight. Infants and babies sleeping in cold bedrooms are also at risk.
Even Though We Might Be Closed When You Need Us:
If the problem can wait, you can still register for an urgent care, by clicking the U button shown above, to see us at urgent care on another day.
If you need to set up with a primary care provider, you can set up that appointment by clicking the Downtown Medical registration button, also shown above. Downtown Medical Internal Medicine is actually available at all our locations, and you may be seen by either a physician or a nurse practitioner: you decide what suits you best.
And finally, we are a proud member of ContactADoc, making your 'visit' so much more convenient, inexpensive, professional and fast, in the event that you simply don't have time to go in and be seen by someone.
